St Catherine of Siena​

St Catherine was born in Siena and it is possible to relive aspects of her life here. The tour includes a visit to the house where she was born and the Basilica of San Domenico, where her head is kept as a relic.
The Basilica has splendid 16th-century frescoes and is worth a visit for the special atmosphere it has preserved. The route runs along the road that Saint Catherine used to take every night to attend to the sick at Santa Maria della Scala Hospital.

St Bernardine of Siena

St Bernardine of Siena was one of the most captivating preachers of his time. Gifted with a critical spirit, an acute observer of society, he delivered heartfelt sermons that are still very relevant today. The itinerary dedicated to him allows visitors to discover in depth the personality of this preacher who was born in Massa Marittima in 1380. The route includes a visit to the basilica of St Francis, the oratory dedicated to him.

The voice of Siena

This route allows you to discover a more hidden and mysterious aspect of Siena. The tour includes walks along the city’s most hidden alleyways, where the ancient voice of Siena seems to echo down the narrow streets.
The walk leads to Castelvecchio, the ancient heart of the city, which houses within its walls one of the most mysterious Sienese fountains. The route is recommended for those who have already visited the most characteristic places in Siena and wish to discover the more hidden character of the city.

The Palio di Siena

The itinerary dedicated to the Palio di Siena allows you to fully understand its history and the importance that this event has for the people of Siena. Starting with a visit to Piazza del Campo, where the Palio takes place, you can visit one of the ‘contrada’ museums.
During this itinerary you can visit the Churches of Santa Maria Assunta and Collegiata di Santa Maria, both historically linked to the Palio di Siena. A route that allows you to experience a tradition in vogue since 1200.

Legend and miracle

Like every medieval city, Sienaalso has many legends originating in the mists of time and told not only by the people, but also by the palaces and churches, silent witnesses to ancient beliefs.
Sienawas the birthplace of Pia de’ Tolomei, the noblewoman encountered by Dante in Purgatory Canto V, which tells her harrowing story. During this itinerary it is possible to find traces of ‘la Pia’, but also to find miraculous testimonies such as the perfectly conserved particles of the Basilica of San Francesco. A tour through the myth and legend of one of Tuscany’s most fascinating cities.

Classical Siena

The tour consists of a visit to the most important monuments in the city and is ideal for those who have never been to Siena. The route includes a walk along the Corso and the main streets of Siena, before reaching the renowned Piazza del Campo, where the famous Palio is held.
During the walk it will be possible to visit the ancient and historic headquarters of the Monte Paschi bank and to enter the Basilica of San Domenico, where the head of the patron saint of Europe, Saint Catherine is kept.

The day can be complemented with visits to the Pinacoteca Nazionale, the Museo dell’Opera del Duomo and the Museo Civico. Between one museum and another, be sure to stop and taste the various typical products: a real treat for the palate!

Sienese Art

In the 14th century Siena was a city of great prestige where the best contemporary artists left behind works of art of indescribable beauty.
The beauty of Sienese paintings, enhanced by their gold backgrounds, characterised and influenced Italian art for many years thereafter. During this tour you can admire the great collections of works of art with gold backgrounds at the Pinacoteca, or the evocative relics from Constantinople kept in the basement of the Santa Maria della Scala Hospital.
Before returning home, a must is a visit to the Museo dell’Opera del Duomo, where the splendidMaestà by Duccio di Buoninsegna stands out.
