The Ancient Borgo San Lorenzo, in Pian dei Campi, was home and place of worshp for the Goths; this is shown by the buried discovery of the famous Treasury of Gologano, found in 1963 during fortuitous excavations and currently preserved at the Museum of SacredArt of Colle Val D’Elsa (Siena).

This treasure is a silver Eucharistic kit, composed by four defferent goblets, a spoon and a paten. One of the goblet and the paten have a latin inscription of two those who made the dedication gote, Himnigilda e Sivegerna.

This treasure was buried in a great hurry by the locals to make it safe from invasion annouced of the Alemanni and Franchi after the defeat of Teia, last kings of the Gotis, near the Lattario mountain in Campania the October 30 553 DC.

In medieval times the village belonged to the noble Sienese family, the Tolemei, became a place of hospitality and catering for merchants and travelers from northern Europe were moving on foot to Rome for a pilgrimage or business. Within the complex is the little Church of San Lorenzo (9th century) built on the remains of an older building dating from the 5th century, the altar is adorned with a fresco depicting the Madonna and Child Enthroned between San Lorenzo and San Sebastian of Pier Francesco Fiorentino ( 15th century) cashed in apse. According to popular tradition, which could be confirmed by a preserved frescoes in the Basilica of San Lucchese, San Lorenzo in Pian dei Campi was the meeting place between San Franesco of Assisi and San Lucchese, one of the first Franciscan tertiaries. The Borgo later became the farm was purchased and restored with great care in the nineties by Bandini family that now welcomes its guests with warmth and professionalism.
